Roblox Celebrates Creator Community at Fourth Annual Developer Conference

Community has grown 250% to more than four million active creators in the past year.

Community is on track to earn more than $70 million from their creations in 2018.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--Roblox announced today details for the company’s fourth annual Roblox Developer Conference (RDC), taking place July 13-15 in San Francisco, CA. Roblox now has a global community of over four million creators with active experiences on the platform, more than twice the size of last year. Over 11 million experiences were created by this community in 2017 alone, bringing the total number on the platform above 40 million. The creator community is also on track to earn over $70 million in 2018, more than twice what it earned last year.

This year’s invite-only conference is expected to double in size. Attendees will hear from top gaming industry veterans and Roblox executives, who will share their expertise and outline new programs and tools designed to help creators build sophisticated, immersive experiences using Roblox Studio. The event kicks off later this weekend and is set to welcome Kristian Segerstrale, CEO of Super Evil Megacorp and co-founder of Glu Mobile and Playfish, as a keynote speaker.

Empowering the creativity of our developers is at the core of everything we do at Roblox,” said David Baszucki, CEO and co-founder of Roblox. “Our platform is brought to life by our community of incredibly creative individuals who dream up these virtual worlds.”

Also this summer, more than 500 coding camps and online programs in the U.S., U.K., Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, Spain, Brazil, and Portugal are using Roblox Studio to teach young creators coding fundamentals, game design, digital citizenship, and entrepreneurial skills. Roblox Studio is free to download, enabling creators of all skill levels to learn how to build, publish, and market their own titles on the Roblox platform. Roblox offers free hosting for experiences built on the platform, making it an easily accessible tool for individual developers and schools alike. Each summer camp has customized courses catering to a variety of different subject matters and skills, such as iD Tech’s Roblox Entrepreneur, a course that leverages the learnings from Roblox developers who have created runaway titles on the platform. The full list of camps can be found at https://corp.roblox.com/education/. Roblox is also offering a self-guided online program this summer, in partnership with the hit film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which can be found at https://www.roblox.com/jwcreatorchallenge.

In addition, the company also announced today that it has welcomed Enrico D’Angelo as Vice President of Product, Developer Platform. D’Angelo will guide the company’s developer platform strategy to further empower creators as they build immersive, cross-platform virtual experiences that reach tens of millions of players around the world. Enrico joins Roblox from Activision Publishing, where he led the free-to-play PC and Mobile product teams and launched record-breaking games, including Call of Duty Online and Call of Duty: Heroes. He will be among the many Roblox executives attending this year’s RDC in San Francisco.

Scheduled later this summer, the company will also be welcoming its top developers based in Europe to its international RDC, taking place in Amsterdam, Netherlands on August 17-19, 2018.
