Munley Law Partner Marion Munley to Be First Woman in the Country to Chair the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Trucking Litigation Group

SCRANTON, Pa.--()--Munley Law, a nationally recognized personal injury law firm, announced that Partner Marion Munley will be the first woman in the country to Chair the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Trucking Litigation Group. Munley, a board-certified personal injury lawyer and passionate advocate for victims’ rights who specializes in commercial truck accident and product liability cases, was appointed as Chair at the 2018 AAJ Annual Convention in Denver, Colorado. Munley will serve in the position for one year.

The AAJ works to promote a fair and effective justice system while supporting the work of attorneys in their efforts to ensure that any person, who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others, can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms – even when taking on the most powerful interests.

“In a field traditionally dominated by men, Marion Munley has established a national reputation as a titan of trucking litigation,” said Peter Kestner of Crawford & Kestner, outgoing chair of the AAJ Trucking Litigation Group. “For the last three decades, Marion has fought for individuals and families who have suffered catastrophic injuries and devastating loss in accidents involving commercial trucks and tractor trailers. Over the course of her career, she’s won millions of dollars for victims and their families while helping shape new laws to make our roadways safer. We are honored that Marion has agreed to serve as Chair and our members are thrilled to benefit from her national expertise.”

“I am honored to be the first woman elected to this position,” said Partner Marion Munley, Munley Law. “AAJ Trucking Litigation Group is a critical resource for attorneys battling the overwhelming resources of corporate counsel. By providing access to years of data and expertise, we will empower more attorneys around the country who are fighting for their clients and against powerful interests with deep pockets.”

Each year, truck collisions account for more than 140,000 reported injuries requiring medical treatment away from the scene. Collisions involving truckers cause an average of 5,000 deaths every year. It is estimated that more people die in collisions with trucks than in collisions in planes, trains, ships, and buses combined. Causes of these collisions include excessive truck speed; poor driving; improperly loaded cargo; driver fatigue; equipment defects; truck design defects; and poor signing, maintenance, or roadway repair.

Members of the Trucking Litigation Group handle cases involving motor-carrier and owner-operator liability. The Group provides members the tools and resources necessary to successfully litigate their trucking cases. Group members network and discuss legal cases and strategies on the group’s plaintiff-only list server and at regular meetings, including AAJ Conventions and Education seminars on trucking cases.

Munley has devoted a significant portion of her practice to cases involving commercial trucks and tractor trailers. She has successfully represented hundreds of individuals and families who have suffered from serious truck accidents. Earlier this year, she reached an $8 million settlement for the family of a 27-year-old Marine who was killed in a truck accident in 2015. Munley frequently travels throughout the United States to share her experience and knowledge of this special practice area.
