TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As Toronto struggles with an unprecedented refugee and housing crisis of its own, ReaLawState, a new real estate brokerage founded by practicing lawyers, will work with Toronto-based street artist Emmanuel Jarus for the benefit of Matthew House Toronto. The aim of the initiative is to raise public awareness for those on the front lines in our city’s current refugee and housing crisis.
Graham F. Alloway, founder and CEO at ReaLawState stated, “Who better than realtors and lawyers to participate in our city’s housing and refugee crisis? Incorporating street art is logical as it has a way to raise awareness of social and political issues like no other medium. Bansky did a series of murals in the refugee camp in France, making a strong statement regarding the migrant crisis in Europe. This is our call to action, on a somewhat smaller scale.”
The event will take place on Thursday, July 12th from 1-6pm at ReaLawState’s downtown headquarters at 909 Yonge Street, where renowned Canadian street artist, Emmanuel Jarus, will create two original pieces which will be available for auction. All proceeds will benefit Matthew House Toronto, an organization offering both shelter and support service for refugees, and a representative will be in attendance to discuss the current crisis in Toronto.
Mr. Alloway said, “The influx of refugees into Toronto is stretching our already exhausted housing resources beyond their breaking point. Refugee housing initiatives are operating beyond their capacities. Now that we are all talking about the problem, the question is: what are we financially prepared to do about it?”.
