Hawaii State Library Website Wins Communicator Award

HONOLULU--()--The Hawaii State Library System has once again been nationally recognized as a winner in the Communicator Award of Distinction in Government Website category. This marks the third award received in honor of the site since its release in October 2016.

“With entries received from across the U.S. and around the world, the Communicator Awards is among the largest and most competitive awards program honoring creative excellence,” said Hawaii State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “We are honored to receive this award. I would like to applaud our web design team from the Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC, and our staff for their efforts and dedication to producing outstanding content and providing our users with a best in class design.”

The award-winning redesign of the library site has delivered a new standard for library sites nationwide. Through collaborative user-centered design workshops with library staff, design strategies that would appeal to fiercely loyal library users and new users alike were uncovered. The team used patrons’ personal stories about how the library has impacted their lives to surface and promote the library’s diverse services such as passports, talking books for the visually impaired, quilt patterns, free databases, free online classes, eBooks, thousands of events, and more. The site was also re-organized to reflect how patrons ask questions, making it easier for users to search and find the items they need. Existing social media imagery was also integrated into the new visual design demonstrating that the library is safe, friendly, community-driven, and a fun place.

The Hawaii State Public Library System website was created in partnership with Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC, the official Internet portal manager of eHawaii.gov.
