Insight School of Kansas to Celebrate Class of 2018 on June 2

Kansas State Representative Frank Trimboli to Address Online School Graduates at In-Person Ceremony

OLATHE, Kan.--()--Insight School of Kansas (ISKS), an accredited, full-time online public school, will hold an in-person graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill High School.

Kansas state representative Frank Trimboli will deliver the keynote address to the school’s graduates and their families. “Congratulations to the Insight School of Kansas Class of 2018,” Trimboli said. “This diverse group of teen and adult students is a testament to the power of perseverance, proving that if you believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve your goals.”

Kansas students statewide in grades 7-12, as well as adult learners, attend ISKS. The school’s comprehensive education approach focuses on providing students with the academic, social and emotional support needed to succeed in school and beyond.

ISKS serves middle school and high school students of all abilities and also provides targeted support for struggling students. Qualified students can also take college-level courses and earn high school credit at the same time through concurrent enrollment.

ISKS also supports an Adult Learner Program, which gives students who are past their fifth-year cohort and have not earned a traditional high school diploma the chance to do so, no matter their age.

“For the first time in my life, this is something that nobody can take away from me – I earned it, it’s mine,” said Gale Spragg, 45, of Newton. Spragg dropped out of high school in 1992 when she got pregnant with her first child and enrolled in the ISKS Adult Learner Program 25 years later to fulfill a promise she made to her grandparents to finish high school. “It’s never too late to go back.”

The school-record 116 graduates in 2018 includes 93 teens and 23 adults.

Emily Ledford is the ISKS Class of 2018 valedictorian and Jonathan Ruder is the salutatorian. Ledford, who completed her high school requirements in December, plans to attend a local college in the fall, while Ruder plans to attend Johnson County Community College to study environmental science and photography.

Dannielle Byard, who first enrolled at ISKS in middle school, has been selected as the student speaker. One of the top students in the Class of 2018, Byard has been active in student council and the school’s creative writing club, and she plans to attend cosmetology school in 2019.

Six ISKS graduates have been named Kansas Scholars. Graduates report that they will attend a number of colleges and universities, including Wichita State University, Bryan University, Barclay College, Bethel College, Emporia State University, Fort Scott Community College, Butler Community College and Washburn Tech. In addition, two students plan to enlist in the U.S. Army.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including a safe learning environment, advanced learning options and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.
