Vizient, Inc. Hosts Congressional Briefing to Discuss How the 340B Drug Discount Program Benefits Patients and Communities

IRVING, Texas--()--Vizient, Inc. announces it is hosting a congressional briefing today titled, “340B: A Vital Part of America’s Safety Net.” The briefing is designed as a panel discussion on the current health care climate, including how the 340B drug discount program enables safety net providers throughout the country to offer critical services to their patients and communities. The briefing will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C.

Jody Hatcher, president, sourcing and collaboration services for Vizient will moderate the panel discussion. The panel will be comprised of four health care executives offering their hospitals’ perspectives on the 340B program and highlighting patient and community service programs made possible in part through savings from the drug discount program. The panelists are:

  • Karen Bowling, vice president of care delivery and transformation at WVU Medicine
  • Carlos A. Migoya, president and chief executive officer of Jackson Health System
  • Steve Purves, president and chief executive officer of Maricopa Integrated Health System
  • Paul Wesolowski, chief operating officer of Virginia Commonwealth University Hospitals

“Lower reimbursements, aging populations with high acuity needs and patients with socioeconomic challenges are requiring hospitals and providers across the country to find resources that enable them to meet the diverse needs of their communities. The 340B Drug Discount Program offers essential relief by delivering additional discounts on outpatient drugs to eligible providers, including safety net hospitals, to deliver important services that meet critical needs of vulnerable patients and underserved communities,” said Hatcher. “We hope that today’s conversation further highlights to policy makers and other stakeholders the important work that safety net hospitals are doing throughout the country.”
