Alabama Canoe Trails’ Website Wins Gold in International Competition

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--()--The Alabama State Lands Division’s official Canoe Trails website was awarded a gold medal in the government agency website category of the Horizon Interactive Awards this month. This is the first award for the website, which launched last year. The aesthetically pleasing site showcases more than 170 miles of trail located along the Bartram Canoe Trail and the Perdido River Canoe Trail.

The site was launched by the Alabama State Lands Division to give kayakers and canoeists an opportunity to better utilize Alabama’s natural water trails. The website uses both interactive maps as well as photo galleries featuring each shelter, landing and trail to provide a positive user experience on both the website and trail. To further engage site visitors, the website also encompasses a built-in contact form, allowing direct messaging to the division.

The following tools and features are available to site visitors:

  • View details for both day and overnight trails
  • Kayakers and canoeists can better plan trips using a detailed map of the trail system
  • Complete overnight shelter reservations

An international panel of judges, consisting of industry professionals with diverse backgrounds, evaluated categories ranging from online advertising to mobile applications. The 2017 winning entries showcase the industry’s best interactive media solutions, including: websites, mobile applications, print media, interactive displays, public exhibits, online advertising, video, email and more.
