A CALL TO MEN Launches LIVERESPECT on Campus to Prevent Sexual Assault and Dating Violence on College Campuses

Student-driven movement and free resources promote a campus culture of respect, equity and value for all

NEW YORK--()--A CALL TO MEN today announced the launch of LIVERESPECT on Campus, a movement for college students who want to promote healthy, respectful manhood and prevent dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, bullying, and all forms of violence and discrimination. Designed for college students, LIVERESPECT on Campus includes free resources for the higher education community to promote a campus culture of respect, equity and value for all.

Sexual assault and dating violence remain at epidemic levels on college campuses. According to the Bureau of Justice, one in four female seniors report experiencing sexual assault during their time on campus, but only 12.5 percent report the act to law enforcement, school officials or a rape crisis center.

“A CALL TO MEN recognizes that the underlying causes of all forms of violence and discrimination against women are rooted in the ways women and girls have been traditionally viewed and treated in our society. Understanding that foundation is the first step to undoing rape culture and creating a safer campus experience for students,” said Tony Porter, CEO of A CALL TO MEN.

A CALL TO MEN has created a free downloadable toolkit to help students understand how to effectively organize on campus to create a culture of respect, equity and value for all, and how their community can join the LIVERESPECT on Campus movement. It includes videos, template materials, social media graphics and an online pledge where students commit to:

  • LISTEN – Listen to women and believe their experiences
  • REFLECT – Reflect on and challenge any harmful messages you have received about gender
  • SPEAK OUT – Talk about healthy, respectful manhood with other men and boys, and speak out against sexism and inequality
  • ACT – Identify the areas of your life where you can influence your peers and culture, and use your platform to create positive social change

The LIVERESPECT on Campus Toolkit is available for download HERE.

“Students are changemakers and are stepping up to help create a world where all men and boys are loving and respectful and all women and girls are valued and safe,” Porter said. “We hope the toolkit can help facilitate that change and help students identify their influence and leverage their platform.”

A CALL TO MEN has reached 500+ colleges and universities, educating students and faculty members on healthy, respectful manhood, and preventing violence and discrimination against all women and girls. Select colleges and universities include: Duke University, Princeton University, Tulane University, Oregon State University, Howard University, Middle Tennessee State University, Penn State University, University of California at Los Angeles, Florida State University, University of North Carolina, Columbia University, Dillard University, University of Massachusetts, Ohio State University, California State University, New York University, Harvard University, Clemson University and others.
