SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that the $50M transformation of Niagara Falls State Park in Niagara Falls, New York, is nearing completion. TYLI was retained by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYSOPRHP) for a multi-year term agreement to develop the comprehensive capital rehabilitation and improvement plan for the park. Serving as Prime Consultant for the five-year project, TYLI oversaw the work of a seven-firm team for the numerous renovations. Contributing disciplines included site/civil, geotechnical, structural, environmental, mechanical, and electrical engineering; surveying; landscape architecture; and architecture.
The 400-acre Niagara Falls State Park is considered the United States’ oldest state park and visited by more than eight million people each year. In addition to providing spectacular views of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Canada’s Horseshoe Falls, the park also offers hiking and nature trails, access to several small islands, various recreational programs, and dining and entertainment facilities.
At the onset of the project, TYLI worked closely with NYSOPRHP and landscape architectural expert, The LA Group, on the design for the park upgrades. The design basis utilized was the state agency’s Niagara Falls State Park Landscape Improvement Plan of 2012.
Upgrades to Niagara Falls State Park include improvements to scenic vistas, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible pathways and trails, plaza gathering areas, infrastructure, parking facilities, lighting systems, pedestrian and vehicle circulation, and service areas. The project team also made significant improvements to key park attractions, including Cave of the Winds, Stedman’s Bluff, Terrapin Point, the Gorge Rim Trail, and the Luna Island and Three Sisters Bridges. TYLI also designed new electrical service, new water lines, and a new sanitary sewer and pump station system to serve Goat Island, and prepared Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans for the improvement projects.

The final construction phase is currently ongoing and scheduled for completion in May 2018.
