SAN FRANCISCO--()--Dropbox, a leading global collaboration platform, and Genius, the world’s biggest encyclopedia of music reaching over 100 million people, today announced the forthcoming launch of Lyrics to Life, an inaugural live art experience inspired by song lyrics from music icons including Nicki Minaj, Sia, and Tame Impala. Lyrics to Life will feature collaborations with acclaimed curators—among them recording artist, rapper and filmmaker Aminé and visual artists Devin Troy Strother and Peggy Noland — who are transforming timeless lyrics into original works of art that music fans can see, touch, and share. The pop-up exhibition will open to the public on March 2 and run through March 5 in Downtown L.A.’s flourishing Arts District.

Powered by Dropbox and its mission to unleash the world’s creative energy and Genius’s mission to reveal the deeper meaning behind music, noteworthy artists and creatives across a variety of industries and disciplines will concept, produce, and install a series of artworks that bring to life lyrics from every music genre in imaginative, eclectic, and unexpected ways—celebrating the rich stories, moods, and interpretations inherent within the greatest songs of all time.

“We believe people should have the freedom to create amazing things without limitation, especially when it comes to the technology and products they use to collaborate,” said Carolyn Feinstein, Chief Marketing Officer at Dropbox. “Through our partnership with Genius, we’re excited to announce Lyrics to Life—a new collaborative experience that will show the industry what’s possible when individuals, teams and ideas come together.”

Among 500 million registered users, thousands of artists, musicians, performers and leading industry professionals have used Dropbox as an industry standard to create. As a trusted collaboration platform, these teams and individuals depend on the suite of Dropbox product capabilities to deliver their best work.

As such, the entire exhibition will be planned and curated using Dropbox Paper, a collaborative workspace that helps teams create and share early ideas, and Genius will follow each creative as they take iconic lyrics off the page and into real life. A short-form documentary about the making of Lyrics to Life, presented by Dropbox and Genius, will also premiere on Genius’s video platforms shortly after the exhibition’s March opening. As a result, Lyrics to Life and Dropbox will surprise and inspire music lovers around the world.

“Everything we do at Genius revolves around bringing music fans deeper into the songs and lyrics they love,” said Brendan Frederick, Genius's Chief Content Officer. “We're excited to team up with an innovative company like Dropbox on a project that gives the creative world a new way to experience the brilliance of lyrics.”

Dropbox is the place where creativity happens. Despite the grind of modern work and endless distractions, creative energy can come in many forms and can be unleashed in different ways. Lyrics to Life will represent this vision through an intentional combination of art and music, expressing the creative possibilities that occur when people are empowered to push the limits of what’s possible through collaboration. The live event parallels the new Dropbox brand system, which was launched to inspire people to do truly extraordinary things.

Lyrics to Life also builds on the momentum Genius has cultivated in the digital space, translating its foundation in song lyrics and music knowledge into a passionate IRL movement. In the past year, the brand launched artist-driven video franchises including VERIFIED and IRL, attracting artists including John Legend, SZA, Camila Cabello, Charlie Puth, and Lil Yachty. At 2 million YouTube subscribers, Genius has the fastest-growing music channel on YouTube and continues to power a successful integration within Spotify called “Behind the Lyrics”; it also recently hosted IQ/BBQ, a single-day music festival headlined by Pusha T, and released a capsule collection of merch inspired by the biggest lyrics of 2017.

Lyrics to Life will welcome music fans and visitors March 2-5, 2018 in the DTLA Arts District. The full curator lineup and additional details will be announced in February. Tickets will be available to the public in the coming weeks; visitors will be required to RSVP to reserve their slot.
