TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) today announced that its distribution center (DC) in Toronto has received Gold under the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Zero Waste certification system administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). The Toronto facility was certified Gold as a result of diverting at least 90 percent of its waste stream from landfill and incineration, having a zero waste policy in place and meeting the TRUE Zero Waste certification requirements over the past 12 months.
“Cintas has a rich history of sustainability, and our zero-waste-to-landfill initiatives are just another example of our commitment to applying innovative ideas that will protect our planet,” said Krista Jaeger, Manager of Sustainability, Cintas. “Our Toronto distribution center has been focused on reusing, recycling, composting or disposing of materials via other responsible outlets, so it’s an honor to be formally recognized by GBCI’s rating system.”
The goal for businesses participating in the TRUE Zero Waste certification is to divert all end-use materials from the landfill, incineration (waste-to-energy) and the environment. Cintas launched its initiatives in 2013 and has since had five distribution locations certified. The company is also working to expand a model of its zero-waste-to-landfill program for its rental laundry plants and rental locations.
“The Toronto DC is buzzing with excitement over this accomplishment, which will further motivate the entire team in the right direction and set a precedence for excellence when it comes to responsible waste management,” said Aftab Shamsudeen, Production Manager, Cintas.
“The newest TRUE certification for Cintas demonstrates their leadership and commitment to being more resource efficient,” said Stephanie Barger, Director of Market Transformation & Development, GBCI TRUE Zero Waste Programs. “By adopting a zero waste strategy, Cintas is making an ongoing commitment to sustainability that positively impacts its employees, its business, the environment and the community in which they operate.”
