OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ash Grove Cement today announced that J. Randall Vance, president and chief operating officer, has been promoted to president and chief executive officer. Charles Sunderland, chairman and chief executive officer and part of the fourth generation of Sunderland family members to lead the majority family-owned business, will remain chairman of the board.

Ash Grove Cement has eight cement plants, as well as extensive ready-mix, sand and gravel, quarry and packaging operations throughout the Midwest, South and West. Ash Grove Cement recently acquired the assets of Central Mortar & Grout in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Haskell Sand in Haskell, Oklahoma, and will open a new packaging plant in Oklahoma City this fall.

Vance joined Ash Grove in 2011 as chief financial officer and senior vice president of administration and was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 2014. Before joining Ash Grove, he worked in a variety of roles at Hostess Brands, Interstate Bakeries, Farmland Industries and Commerce Bank.
Vance’s appointment is effective today and he will continue to report to Sunderland.
