TUKWILA, Wash., & MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The nation’s leading behavioral health pharmacy and telepsychiatry company, Genoa, a QoL Healthcare Company, today announced the launch of Genoa Medication Management Solutions. The new offering is possible due to the acquisition of Medication Management Systems, Inc., a Minneapolis-based provider of comprehensive medication therapy management services and technology for complex high-risk patients.
Medication Management Systems helps improve treatment plans by making recommendations related to pharmaceutical care for patients with multiple health conditions. Genoa helps people with behavioral health issues follow their treatment plans.
“The combination of our capabilities provides an end-to-end solution that strengthens and expands our comprehensive pharmacy offerings,” said John Figueroa, chief executive officer for Genoa.
“As a company, we are focused on providing interventions that continue to achieve more than 90 percent medication adherence rates. This acquisition enables us to do that for more people,” he said.
“We already do a great job of improving the lives of those living with a mental illness,” said Mark Peterson, chief commercial officer for Genoa. “Many people with complex health conditions also have underlying mental health issues. This enables us to serve a broader population.”
Today, Medication Management Systems, Inc. provides comprehensive medication management services to more than 30,000 patients under benefit plans administered by health plans and self-insured employers.
Medication Management Systems technology platforms are licensed by Medicare and Medicaid managed care organizations with more than four million members and 300 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services contracts.
Additionally, MMS is participating in one of six CMS innovations programs to provide enhanced medication therapy management services to Medicare beneficiaries.
Medication Management Systems was founded in 2006 based on the research of University of Minnesota pharmacists, educators and pioneers of pharmaceutical care Drs. Linda Strand and Bob Cipolle. MMS was the first of more than 100 companies spun out by the University of Minnesota’s Venture Center, which was founded that same year.
"We are very excited to become part of Genoa," said David McLean, Ph.D, chairman and chief executive officer of Medication Management Systems. "Genoa’s national footprint, deep industry relationships and expertise providing comprehensive pharmacy solutions to high-risk populations, combined with our patient-centered comprehensive medication management service and technology platform, position us for success far into the future."
