Patton's New Weatherproof Power-over-Ethernet Extender Reaches 3,300 Feet

Housed in a weatherproof outdoor enclosure, the CL1101E/IP67 enables solution architects to position IP endpoint devices in previously un-reachable locations by extending Power-over-Ethernet up to 3,300 feet over 2-wire copper or coaxial cable.

GAITHERSBURG, Md.--()--Patton Electronics—US manufacturer of UC, cloud, and IoT enabling solutions for carrier, enterprise and industrial networks—is now shipping the IP67-certified CopperLink 1101E/IP67 series of outdoor weatherproof Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Ethernet Extenders.

Designed and tested for use in rain, splashing and accidental submersion, Patton’s CL1101E/IP67 takes PoE to the next level.

The product line enables IP-based solutions requiring such outdoor PoE endpoint devices as emergency call boxes, WAPs, traffic or surveillance cams, industrial sensors/monitors/flow meters, PLCs, or wireless access points (WAPs).

An available a BNC connector supports line-powered Ethernet-over-Coaxial solutions for such applications as closed circuit TV (CCTV).

Patton's expanded PoE extender solution set now includes three model series: the commercial grade CL1101, industrial grade CL1101E and the new outdoor industrial CL1101E/IP67.

All three solutions leverage common copper phone wire or existing coaxial cable to extend 10/100 Ethernet and up to 15 Watts of 802.3af (or legacy) PoE electrical power up to 3,300 feet (915 meters) to IP-enabled devices.

“Network cabling is often embedded in concrete, inside walls, or buried under asphalt,” explains Johnnie Grant III, Product Line Manager, Patton. “Replacing all that can cost a fortune! Our solution conserves capital by re-using the legacy cabling versus installing new Cat5… or fiber, which can’t deliver power.”

By re-using existing cable, Patton’s PoE Extenders prevent the disruption, delay and expense of AC power construction or new CAT5e installation. Copper network infrastructure is ubiquitous: most sites have twisted pair or coaxial cabling installed decades ago that still works well.

“Now, it only takes two wires to deliver next-gen, 100-Mbps PoE connectivity in challenging outdoor environments where there may be dust, dirt, rain, snow or ice!” Mr. Grant added.

IP67 certification ensures protection from harmful dust and immersion in water up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) deep for up to 30 minutes.

Last week, Patton announced its cloud-smart Euro-BRI/FXS VoIP appliance that clears the path to ALL-IP for small offices and enterprises.
