TEGAM White Paper Outlines How Automating Temperature Measurement Can Help Companies Comply with New FSMA Regulations

GENEVA, Ohio--()--TEGAM, Inc., a leading manufacturer of digital handheld thermometers used extensively by food processors for over 30 years, has released a white paper, Foodborne Pathogens and Time-Temperature Measurements: Implementing Automated Food Safety Solutions. It offers guidance for food manufacturers to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) – specifically time/temperature measurements – through the use of wireless-enabled data collection thermometers.

The FDA created the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) to help prevent the 9 million illnesses caused by foodborne pathogens each year. The FSMA requires a written food safety plan called Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Controls (HARPC). Because time-temperature controls inhibit the growth of foodborne pathogens, temperature measurements are one of the cornerstones of the HARPC.

The challenges brought about by the FSMA will require new solutions for data collection and integrity without disrupting food handling processes. The white paper discusses how automating temperature data collection can help make sure food manufacturers are able to meet the new requirements.

Using data collection thermometers equipped with wireless communication, critical temperature data can be monitored on mobile devices real-time or streamed to cloud storage for review and analysis. Non-compliant readings can be identified quickly improving response time and reducing production downtime.

The white paper includes the following information:

  • The key elements of the FSMA;
  • Time/temperature controls according to the HARPC Draft Guidance;
  • The key components of a temperature recording device; and
  • The ROI of automated temperature recording solution.

“We understand the challenges food manufacturers face in meeting the FSMA requirements,” said Adam Fleder, President of TEGAM, Inc. “Automated temperature recording devices are a comprehensive, cost-effective solution for food safety data collection.”

TEGAM designed its newest line of digital thermometers to provide fast, easy and accurate data collection. When teamed with the TEGAM Thermometer Link™ mobile app and TEGAM Cloud™, users can easily collect, store, analyze and retrieve their critical temperature data.
