George Mason University Partners with Revature to Train the Next Generation of Tech Talent in the Greater Washington Area

Partnership addresses high demand for tech talent in the National Capital Region

FAIRFAX, Va. & RESTON, Va.--()--George Mason University, Virginia’s largest public research university, and Revature, a leading technology talent development company, today announced a strategic partnership to provide Mason students with free hands-on technology training that will prepare them to fill critical gaps in the Northern Virginia workforce.

Revature will offer intensive online and on-site coding programs to teach Mason students – and recent Mason graduates – the diverse technology skills needed to help companies increasingly seeking employees with enterprise-level coding skills and mastery in new methodologies.

Graduates of Revature’s immersive on-site program, held at their headquarters in Reston, VA, gain the enterprise software development training to become more marketable in the new labor workforce, and companies gain access to highly skilled, career-ready tech talent. The partnership offers Mason students free training that otherwise would cost thousands of dollars.

“We hear from recruiters all of the time that the shortage of tech talent is real; there are simply not enough qualified candidates to fill the available jobs,” said Saskia Clay-Rooks, executive director of University Career Services at Mason. “This partnership is a great example of how the university is responsive to the hiring needs of employers by ensuring Mason graduates are equipped with the training and experience to fuel the economic engine of this region.”

According to an annual report from the Northern Virginia Technology Council, software development is the number one occupation with the largest potential shortfalls between the demand and supply of trained workers within the region’s technology sector. More than 60 percent of employers report difficulty finding applicants experienced in programming and software development. Revature works with universities and employers across the country to address that void.

“With these programs, we’re addressing the skills gap head-on and creating a pool of talented software developers that have the enterprise-level skills needed to enter the workforce and make an impact on day one,” said Ashwin Bharath, Revature’s chief operating officer. “The Greater Washington area is a hotbed for technology innovation, and by partnering with Mason we are addressing the region’s demand for skilled software developers.”

“We best serve our students – and our region – by finding inventive ways to produce graduates with the skills and knowledge coveted by many of the largest employers in Northern Virginia,” George Mason University President Ángel Cabrera said. “Our partnership with Revature will help Mason graduates launch careers as well as fulfill our roles as a talent pool and driving economic force in the region.”
