PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SurveyMonkey, the world’s leading online survey platform, today unveiled its Electoral College Map, an interactive map showing who is leading the presidential race in all 50 states based on exclusive polling of tens of thousands of voters. With the new map, everyone will now have access to the same type of real-time data the best pollsters use to make their presidential predictions. Map visitors can see where Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump stand everywhere, including in the key battleground races, and then create their own Electoral College predictions to easily share on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
“We’re using our scale and technology to give a deep, unvarnished, and unmatched view of the electorate that is based on real opinions and real-time data,” said Jon Cohen, SurveyMonkey’s Chief Research Officer. “This adds a new dimension to professional estimates, offering a powerful alternative to assumption-laden models based on relatively few interviews and cross-poll averages. Today, for the first time, we can allow voters to view large-scale, single-source data to create their own predictive analyses under almost any scenario they want to test.”
Visitors to the SurveyMonkey Electoral College Map can easily access the real-time polling results on a state level by key demographics including age, sex, race, income and more. With just a few clicks, anyone can see how state by state races look among key generational voting blocs from millennials to the elderly as well as education, gender and race.
The Electoral College Map is another example of SurveyMonkey’s ability to leverage its platform of 90 million survey responses per month to create intelligent, approachable data products. Different from other maps, the data powering the Electoral College Map at launch is based on more than 30,000 interviews conducted since October 8th as part of SurveyMonkey’s ongoing Election polling. Once collected, the data are weighted by state-level voter demographics for each state in the country. The map’s data will be refreshed daily during the remaining weeks of the election.
The Electoral Map is built on SurveyMonkey’s Election Tracking Product unveiled this summer to deliver unprecedented access to polling data for the 2016 U.S. presidential, senate and gubernatorial elections. Tens of thousands of interviews are logged every week from voters across the country and then customers are given unparalleled, easy-to-use tools to access data from these interviews to truly understand what is shaping up to be the election of a lifetime. In all, SurveyMonkey will interview about 1 million voters this election cycle.
Developed by SurveyMonkey engineers, the Electoral College Map and Election Tracking product are overseen by two of the most respected pollsters in America: Cohen, former head of polling at The Washington Post and Pew Research, and SurveyMonkey’s Head of Election Polling Mark Blumenthal, previously co-founder of Pollster.com.
