PROVO, Utah & BEIRUT--()--Syrian refugees make up half of the 40-student Coding Bootcamp that was just launched in Beirut, Lebanon by V School™ at the company’s first office outside of the United States. V School is a private company focused on adult technology education.

Since launching its first program in the Fall of 2013, Provo, Utah-based V School has provided technology training to eight refugee populations in the state through a partnership with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED).

“Programming and Web Development have become the de facto international languages of our generation, and literacy as technologies slide seamlessly across all borders,” said V School CEO and Co-Founder, Michael Zaro. “Seeing the success we have had previously in helping refugees catapult into the world of high-paying, high-demand high-tech jobs, we were curious to see if there were opportunities to leverage our systems and expertise outside of the U.S.

“In that regard, we are extremely pleased to announce four things:

  1. The opening of V School’s first office outside of America,
  2. V School’s partnership with Al-Makassed University in Beirut,
  3. The launch of our first 12-week, full-time course in “Full Stack JavaScript” in the Middle East, and
  4. The fact that V School’s first course in Beirut is completely sold out, with half of the 40 male and female adult students being refugees from Syria.”

EDUCATIONAL FOCUS OF V SCHOOL

Headquartered in Provo, Utah, V School provides immersive, full- and part-time technology education for adults interested in jumpstarting their careers or for those interested in improving their skillsets. For example, V School’s 12-week full-time courses — such as the “Full Stack JavaScript” program it recently launched in Beirut — provides 700 hours of hands-on instruction and training in JavaScript programming and development.

“We’re also really proud of the fact that the average V School graduate successfully lands a full-time job in their chosen field within 30 days of graduation,” Zaro added.

All courses taught by V School are delivered “live” by in-class instructors (although students may watch recordings of the classes after-the fact should they wish to do so). In addition to “Full Stack JavaScript,” other courses offered by V School include

with all courses available in Provo or at its Salt Lake City, Utah office or online, with future course availability in Beirut to be determined at a later date.

“We are honored to partner with V School to help transform the educational landscape in Lebanon and in the Middle East,” said Mr. Amine M. Daouk, President of Al-Makassed University of Beirut. “Not only has computer programming become a new form of literacy, but those learners willing to take the journey into the technology world can truly transform their lives, the lives of their families and communities, as well as their countries. I applaud these first 40 students and look forward to watching their progress now and throughout their lives.”

{NOTE: Daouk is also the President of the Makassed Philanthropic Muslim Association and has been named to the Muslim 500, a list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.}

Fees for the 12-week full-time V School Coding Bootcamps are $14,300(US), while fees for the part-time, 12-week Coding Bootcamps are $5,100(US). V School has identified four student loan companies currently willing to evaluate prospective V School students: CLIMB, PAVE, Skills Fund, and Upstart. Some out-of-state and out-of-country housing scholarships are available for students accepted into V School’s full-time Coding Bootcamps.
