WellSpan Health, one of “Healthcare’s Most Wired,” Embraces Technology from Ensocare to Automate Patient Discharge

Ensocare Technology to Interoperate with Epic across the WellSpan Health System

OMAHA, Neb.--()--Ensocare, a leading provider of technology-enabled care coordination solutions, today announced that it has expanded its relationship with WellSpan Health, one of the East Coast’s leading integrated healthcare systems and a recognized healthcare technology leader.

Ensocare’s Transition software solution is already in use across three WellSpan hospitals – WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital, WellSpan York Hospital and WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. In early 2017, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital will move from a manual patient discharge process to Ensocare’s automated patient discharge solution.

After initial implementation, the original three WellSpan Health locations received a significant drop in median response time to only 22 minutes. Ensocare’s customer support team manages the post-acute network to keep providers trained and actively engaged, reporting participation from 93.58% of all providers in the network.

The expansion of Ensocare across WellSpan’s system is part of an effort to consolidate WellSpan’s various electronic health record (EHR) systems to one consistent platform for the entire health system. Ensocare’s software will interface with WellSpan’s EPIC® Electronic Health Record system. Together the two solutions will increase workflow efficiency and productivity.

“The data sharing that’s necessary to ensure continuity of care requires interoperability,” said Luis Castillo, President and CEO of Ensocare. “Using the foundational base of the EMR investment, hospitals can integrate the next layer of technology designed specifically to improve care.”

Due to the expanded relationship, Ensocare will now handle nearly 50,000 annual discharges for WellSpan and save hundreds of hours of clinical and administrative staff time. This month, WellSpan was named one of “Health Care’s Most Wired” by Hospitals and Health Networks (H&HN) magazine, an annual industry power list of healthcare systems that effectively adopt and use information technology. WellSpan is one of more than 20 “most wired” hospitals who are utilizing Ensocare’s technology.

Among Most Wired hospitals:

  • 68 percent accept patient-generated data through the patient portal
  • 62 percent stratify patients according to risk
  • 53 percent interface EHR data with population health tools

“Connecting the Ensocare technology solution allows WellSpan to facilitate efficient and effective information sharing across its system and earn a spot among most wired hospitals,” Castillo continued. “Ensocare’s unique technology solution streamlines the discharge and referral process to transition patients effectively to the next level of care.”
