Nick Triantos Joins Ignition Partners as Venture Partner

Experienced venture investor, entrepreneur and technologist to focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning and their application in enterprise and business software; joins Silicon Valley office

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--()--Ignition Partners, an early stage, business software venture capital firm, today announced Nick Triantos has joined as a venture partner in the firm’s new Los Altos office. Triantos will utilize his extensive background in venture capital and technology to identify new, strategic investments for the firm in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and VR/AR for the enterprise.

Triantos joins Ignition from SRI International, the research firm behind inventions such as Siri, the computer mouse and the ARPANET, where he was managing director of the ventures team. During his time at SRI, Triantos focused on software research labs, covering areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, speech recognition and natural language understanding.

“We became increasing fans of Nick through two of our private unconference meetings, where, in a room full of stellar domain experts, he repeatedly distinguished himself, voicing many of the most useful technology-market insights of the group,” said Nick Sturiale, managing partner for Ignition. “We look forward to his joining us and providing his perspectives and value to our portfolio companies.”

In addition to his work at SRI International, Triantos brings a unique perspective to Ignition, having previously co-founded two companies and served as a CEO twice. Nick has also worked for six startups, raising more than $10M from investors. Earlier in his career, Triantos worked in venture capital as a partner at Quantum Technology Partners, and a board director of Sand Hill Angels. He has invested in over a dozen companies, achieving a roughly 3X return on invested cash, plus a portfolio of numerous thriving and growing companies.

Nick holds a BS in Computer Science from SUNY Buffalo, and dual MBA degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and Columbia University. He is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society, and has been a guest lecturer at Stanford University, UC Berkeley, MIT, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne and numerous other top universities.

“I’ve known Nick, Frank and John for years and was always struck by their low ego, high impact service model for early stage entrepreneurs,” said Triantos. “There is so much happening in the areas of AI and machine learning. I look forward to focusing on this area, and am excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work with great entrepreneurs."
