SAN FRANCISCO & WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Last week the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) honored Bob Sullivan, journalist and Credit.com contributor, with the prestigious Betty Furness Consumer Media Service Award for more than two decades of work as an investigative journalist. The award honors those who have demonstrated their distinguished lifetime service to consumers.
“Consumers need the answers Bob provides,” said Ed Mierzwinski, federal consumer program director and senior fellow for U.S. PIRG, who presented the award. Turning to Sullivan, he added, “Consumers and consumer advocates need you out there with your big digital megaphone, fighting for the average consumer, telling your stories, and letting them know they are not alone.”
Sullivan was among four awarded at the consumer advocacy group’s 46th annual awards dinner last week in Washington, D.C. In addition to Sullivan, this year’s CFA honorees include Sen. Sherrod Brown (D–Ohio), Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Albert (Bert) Foer, founder and former president of the American Antitrust Institute.
“I am honored to receive this award,” Sullivan said during an acceptance speech which highlighted his journey into independent journalism amid a changing media landscape. “I accept this award on behalf of every journalist I know whose voice they are struggling to keep from disappearing right now.”
With a career spanning more than two decades, the author and investigative journalist was among the founding journalists of MSNBC.com, where he created and wrote the popular blog The Red Tape Chronicles.
Sullivan is still a contributor for CNBC.com and NBCNews.com, and he continues to appear on NBC TV programs as a consumer technology expert. As a Credit.com contributor, Sullivan writes weekly articles about fraud, consumer "gotchas" and the economy, which are syndicated to more than 100 news sites.
