Briarcliffe College Plans Gradual Discontinuation of Operations

Teach out Plan Calls for Providing Briarcliffe Students Opportunities to Complete Degree Programs

BETHPAGE, N.Y.--()--Briarcliffe College announced today that it has developed a plan, pending regulatory and related approvals, which will begin the careful and deliberate discontinuation of operations at Briarcliffe College. Called a "teach out," the plan is designed to afford Briarcliffe students a reasonable opportunity to complete their program of study before their college is ultimately closed in 2018.

As previously reported in May 2015, the College had been soliciting interest from potential purchasers. Despite these efforts, no arrangements for a transfer of ownership were reached and the difficult decision was made to proceed with a teach out.

"While this is a sad day indeed, I have assured Briarcliffe students that through our plan they have the opportunity to continue their studies and pursue their degrees. Briarcliffe alumni have left their mark on the Long Island community for decades and I'm confident our graduates will continue making contributions for years to come," said Dr. George Santiago, Jr., President, Briarcliffe College.
