SEATTLE--()--Attorney Advertising. Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating recent reports that discount brokerage firm Scottrade experienced a data breach that could have potentially put nearly five million past and current customers at risk.

Scottrade issued a statement announcing that they learned of the breach when federal law enforcement officials informed it of an ongoing investigation into cybersecurity issues at financial services companies. The company further revealed that the unauthorized access appears to have occurred between late 2013 and early 2014.

While contact information, including names and addresses, were the focus of the hack, social security numbers and other sensitive data – information used to perpetrate identity theft – were also at risk.

“Consumers have a right to expect that the companies they do business with will keep their information safe from criminals who can use this data to commit identity theft and fraud,” said Cari Laufenberg, a member of Keller Rohrback’s nationally recognized complex litigation group.

Nearly five million Scottrade current and former customers nationwide may have been exposed in the attack. If you are concerned that your personal information was breached and would like to know more about your rights, please contact attorneys Cari Laufenberg at (800) 776-6044 or via email at consumer@kellerrohrback.com.
