NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In honor of New York Fashion Week, more than 6,500 fans joined Time Inc.’s ESSENCE for its 2nd annual Street Style Block Party & Awards, which took place in Brooklyn on Sunday, September 13. The event’s official hashtag (#EssenceStyle) trended on social media throughout the day, with thousands of posts celebrating real women with great style.
The ESSENCE Street Style Block Party was a day-long extravaganza – fusing music, fashion, art, shopping and food and featuring special appearances by actress Gabrielle Union, a Street Style fashion show co-hosted by singer/TV personality Mel B. and an incredible performance by R&B singer Andra Day. In addition, the event featured local vendors and designers via the Street Style Shops; Essence Eats, a curated local food truck experience; and an interactive Kids Zone.
The day culminated with a private Street Style Awards dinner honoring the year’s standout fashion influencers: Ciara (“Curator of Cool”); actress Gabrielle Union (“Closet Crush”); fashion designer Charles Elliott Harbison (“Designer to Watch”); celebrity stylist Jason Rembert (“Style Disrupter”); and fashion blogger Karen Blanchard (“Chevrolet Street Style Maven”).
“Our Street Style Block Party clearly resonates with women as a manifestation of our desire to own our unique style and beauty and to see this uniqueness celebrated,” said ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. De Luca. “And, recognizing the inspiring talent of this year’s Street Style Award honorees – Ciara, Gabrielle Union, Charles Harbison and Jason Rembert – powerfully celebrates diversity and self-expression during New York Fashion Week.”
