SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Minted, the design marketplace that connects consumers with the world’s best artists, today announced its expansion into home decor with the launch of Minted Home. Minted serves the $100 billion home market differently than traditional retailers, sourcing textile designs from independent artists around the world and manufacturing them on-demand into high-quality pillows, curtains, table linens, and other home goods when consumers place orders. Minted Home is the third business for Minted, which already operates Minted Stationery and Minted Art.
Through crowdsourcing and crowd curation, Minted scalably accesses a vast, untapped pool of superb designs and, through on-demand manufacturing, the company exposes a limitless number of goods for sale. Minted is launching with over 40,000 unique SKUs in home goods, offering one of the largest and most diverse assortments of home offerings available anywhere. The assortment includes a wide range of textile designs, sourced from designers in 43 countries, to fit each customer’s unique personal style.
Minted is also licensing and wholesaling art and textile designs to other retailers, sourcing designs from Minted’s community to provide products to partners. Minted has an established partnership with West Elm to provide an exclusive art assortment sourced by Minted from its community for sale in West Elm stores across the country.
“Today’s decor customers not only are hungry for a more diverse product offering than ever before, but their design sensitivity is radically higher because of image-based social media,” said Founder and CEO Mariam Naficy. “Our ability to scalably surface the best designs in the world uniquely enables us to satisfy all consumer tastes. Because our community votes to tell us what to sell, our assortment is broad but of the highest design quality.”
The introduction of Minted Home opens up an entirely new market opportunity for Minted’s creative community to connect with their audiences, diversifying product offerings and growing reach. Because Minted’s platform seamlessly handles all backend fulfillment, designers and artists can continue to focus on creating unique pieces of work while Minted helps bring highly custom designs to market and into consumer hands.
“Too many talented independent designers couldn’t participate in the home goods market because they didn’t have access to manufacturing and distribution,” said Hiroki Asai, VP Marketing Communications at Apple and recently appointed Minted board member. “Minted has changed that and is creating a new model for designers to work within. Minted celebrates and supports independent designers, and it's exciting to see the company create a whole new marketplace for them.”
Founded in 2008 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, Minted is a design marketplace that connects you to the world’s best independent artists to create something one-of-a-kind. Minted’s unique crowd sourced model represents a modern marketplace – one where the community decides what goods are showcased and sold. This model ensures fresh, on-trend designs are continuously being added to Minted. Minted enables artists, designers and photographers around the world to create original work, then provides them with an operations platform that handles all fulfillment and customer service. This leaves creatives to do what they do best, while letting Minted do the rest. The company – which began in stationery, then moved into art (2012) and textiles (2014), most recently expanded beyond physical goods into digital content, starting with website designs. Minted has raised $90M since launching in 2007 and is funded by Benchmark Capital, IDG Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, Technology Crossover Ventures as well as angel investors.
