SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Smart Utility Systems (SUS), an award-winning provider of SaaS technology solutions for utilities, today announced two important milestones in its commitment to solving today’s most critical water and energy conservation challenges, with the inauguration of its Water & Energy Innovation Center in Santa Clara and the launch of its new Smart H2O mobile app.

Founded in 2009, Smart Utility Systems creates software solutions to help utilities and water districts increase water and energy conservation efforts, enable better resource management, and make operations more efficient. Their solutions leverage mobile, data analytics and SaaS technologies for usage monitoring, leak detection, customer engagement, workforce management and more.

New Water & Energy Innovation Center in Santa Clara

In order to continue delivering superior solutions, SUS must continuously innovate to address the shifting environmental, business and policy issues faced by utilities and water districts. The new Water & Energy Innovation Center in Santa Clara, Calif., will provide a hub in Silicon Valley, putting the company at the forefront of the evolving technology and utilities landscapes. The new center will be dedicated to the advancement of SUS technologies through rigorous research practice as well as product advancement and development. Rishi Kumar, Vice President, Government Affairs & Business Development for SUS, will lead the new Silicon Valley team.

Mayor Jamie Matthews of Santa Clara, Calif., and Mayor Sam Liccardo of San Jose, Calif., along with several other Santa Clara County elected officials and Chamber of Commerce representatives attended a ribbon cutting and inauguration event at the new center earlier this month. Mayor Matthews and Liccardo welcomed SUS to Silicon Valley, highlighting the alignment of the SUS mission with their cities’ focus on water conservation.

Mayor Matthews said, “Being the heart of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara has the unique advantage of having the best minds in technology helping to combat the drought. Smart Utility Systems is offering the type of essential, timely innovation that we need for our critical water conservation efforts and we’re excited to welcome them to our city.”

“In the last couple of months, San Jose has led the state in water conversation during this severe drought,” Mayor Liccardo said. “We are committed to continuing our success by engaging our residents with innovative technology to help them save water. We are happy to welcome Smart Utility Systems to Silicon Valley.”

Smart H2O Mobile App

Smart Utility Systems believes that engaging consumers is key for water conservation efforts. With the new SUS Smart H2O app, consumers can partner with utilities in water conservation advocacy by reporting water waste such as unrepaired leaks, defective irrigation systems, and water run-off in the street, to their local water agency with a single click. Additional Smart H2O app features include:

  • Information on the latest government-mandated water use restrictions, helping consumer stay within legal boundaries and avoid fines and penalties
  • Access to water conservation incentives and rebates and the ability to share incentives via social media, creating water conservation buzz
  • Instant mobile access to information about consumers’ own water use

The Smart H2O mobile app is available as a free download for iOS and Android-based mobile devices.

Deepak Garg, Chief Executive Officer, Smart Utility Systems, said, “Our team is motivated by the prospect of using technology to help solve critical real-world problems, such as the California drought. We’re incredibly excited to expand our presence into Silicon Valley and to continue further solidifying our commitment to water conservation through technology like the Smart H2O app.”
