Spok Enhances User Experience and Interoperability With Latest Smartphone Texting App

SPRINGFIELD, Va.--()--Spok, Inc. today announced the latest release of its secure texting app, Spok Mobile® version 4.1. With this new version, Spok offers a compelling and powerful messaging solution that promises to be a valuable tool for the healthcare community. The app provides increased interoperability with other systems along with an enhanced user experience. A more efficient and secure messaging platform gives users the ability to share images, videos, and text messages, and make quick connections for better patient care.

“We believe that this version of Spok Mobile will play an important role in helping providers meet the demands of patient-centric care by working seamlessly with other mobile applications,” said Hemant Goel, chief operating officer of Spok.

Spok Mobile can now integrate with third-party mobile applications on the end-user’s device thanks to a newly developed mobile API. New functionality includes secure patient discussions via an EMR app, the ability to push content (images) to a third-party app or cloud-based drive, communication with proprietary hospital apps, and the capability to send invites to the care team for third-party app consultations.

Additional upgrades include an integration with Box, the leading enterprise software platform for secure content collaboration, enabling users to easily and securely send documents, photos, and videos stored in Box via a Spok Mobile message, maintaining complete end-to-end HIPAA compliance. Version 4.1 also offers an integration with wearable devices like the Apple Watch™ wrist wearable device, allowing organizations that use these solutions to further strengthen secure communication options via the Spok mobile application.

“Wearables are going to lead to workflow changes in the healthcare environment,” said Goel. “We are continually improving our solutions to make these new devices as productive as possible for our customers.”

The 4.1 release also includes user-experience enhancements such as text-size control, profile-picture display control, fingerprint ID access, ability to silence alerts, forward and copy/paste message options, and a new landscape-mode layout. Spok Mobile 4.1 is available as a hosted cloud-based or on-premise solution.
