Software-Defined WAN For Dummies® Spreads Education of Transformative WAN Technology Across Enterprises

VeloCloud-authored special edition targeted at both business and technical audiences

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--A new book titled Software-Defined WAN For Dummies®, authored by the co-founders of VeloCloud and the executive director of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), introduces business IT teams to a better way to do branch-office networking using a new technology called SD-WAN (software-defined wide area networking).

“There is a buzz about SD-WAN and consequently, a thirst for more information about this radically simplified way to do full-fledged, enterprise-grade branch-office networking,” said Sanjay Uppal, CEO and co-founder of VeloCloud. “As a leader in transforming the WAN, VeloCloud has a responsibility to educate broader audiences on the true characteristics, benefits and use cases of the technology, enabling businesses and IT personnel to implement it with confidence. We hope this book helps in that endeavor.”

In the tradition of “For Dummies” titles, Software-Defined WAN For Dummies packs a wealth of information for technical and business people alike, but delivered in a simple, easy-to-read style and format.

As the book explains, SD-WAN simplifies branch office connectivity and ongoing management, reduces hardware sprawl and significantly improves enterprise application performance while strengthening visibility and control for IT departments. With SD-WAN—and, in particular, with cloud-delivered SD-WAN—distributed organizations can achieve greater business agility, more cost-effective WAN services without sacrificing performance or security, and an optimized cloud architecture.

This special edition “For Dummies” book has been written by VeloCloud co-founders Sanjay Uppal, CEO, and Steve Woo, vice president products, with a special contribution by Dan Pitt, executive director of ONF. The foreword to the book is written by Lee Doyle, principal analyst at Doyle Research.

Book Authors Uniquely Qualified to Present SD-WAN Information

As Lee Doyle says in the book’s foreword: “VeloCloud’s ‘Software-Defined WAN For Dummies’ is an excellent resource for anyone involved with the planning or implementation of WAN infrastructure in enterprises. SD-WAN offers compelling advantages of performance and cost of bandwidth for distributed enterprises and, as leaders, VeloCloud should be commended for their effort in spreading the awareness and knowledge of this potentially transformative technology.”

Authors Sanjay Uppal and Steve Woo are co-founders of VeloCloud Networks, a cloud-delivered SD-WAN company and winner of this year’s Best Startup of INTEROP Award. Dan Pitt is executive director of ONF.

Sanjay Uppal previously was an executive at Citrix, president and COO of OnMobile Global, president and CEO of Caymas, VP of engineering and business development at Webvan, and responsible for growing Internet infrastructure as a profitable new business for Hewlett-Packard.

Steve Woo was founder or executive at numerous networking companies including Aerohive, Pareto, McAfee, Secure Computing/Securify, Cisco System, Riverhead Networks, Class Data Systems and SynOptics/Bay Networks.

Dan Pitt spent 20 years developing networking architecture, technology, standards and products at IBM Networking Systems in North Carolina, IBM Research Zurich in Switzerland, Hewlett-Packard Labs in Palo Alto and Bay Networks in Santa Clara, Calif., where he was vice president of the Bay Architecture Lab. He also served as dean of the school of engineering at Santa Clara University and as an advisor to startup companies.
