The Standox success story began in Europe 60 years ago. In 1955, paint manufacturer Herberts introduced a selection of automotive refinish paints with the name Standox. The name derived from the words Standöl (stand oil – a raw material for the paint production) and oxidative (drying). The new paint quickly became popular and Herberts developed it further into a complete automotive refinish paint system.
Over the years and decades that followed its introduction, Standox provided its customers with important new innovations, for example, the metallic two-coat finish (1968), the blending technique (1973) or One Visit Application (1992). In the 1990s, Standox made a breakthrough in the area of environmentally responsible waterborne basecoat systems with Standohyd™ and, in 2010, with the introduction of Standoblue®.
