MetroChicago HIE to Debut DirectRoute Clinical Communications from Secure Exchange Solutions

Next-generation health care communications platform helps providers customize their preferred clinical messaging workflow

CHICAGO--()--MetroChicago Health Information Exchange (HIE), powered by Sandlot Solutions, is bringing its members a revolutionary way to manage their clinical communication. DirectRoute allows every provider, department and hospital with a Direct address to set up a personalized message routing profile, empowering each end user to customize how they receive secure patient information from their colleagues, whether inside their EHR, on a web portal or on a mobile device.

Direct secure messaging has expanded rapidly, and access continues to grow. As the flow of data increases, so does the providers’ need to effectively manage incoming data within their preferred workflow. Over 50 percent of health care providers nationwide already have access to a Direct secure email address. Many have multiple addresses through their respective practice’s electronic health record system, their health information exchange and the hospitals where they admit patients.

MetroChicago HIE, an initiative of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC), which recently surpassed one million patient records, recognized the need for busy health care professionals to most effectively and efficiently manage their secure messages through a centralized, community-based, easy-to-use profile.

“We are proud to work with Sandlot to implement this latest solution, further ensuring that our member providers have access to critical patient information at the right time and the right place,” said Dan Yunker, President and CEO, MCHC. “DirectRoute will authorize providers at each of MetroChicago HIE’s organizations to best manage workflow and resources, enabling them to focus on their patients and on delivering the highest quality of care to the communities they serve.”

With this service, providers will best maintain continuity of care by, for example, managing multiple email addresses across organizations and accessing time-sensitive patient information sent to a provider who is away from the office.

DirectRoute will be available as part of the Secure Exchange Solutions HISP, a partner of Sandlot Solutions. “The delivery of quality patient care is not possible unless all providers involved have access to the information they need to make informed treatment decisions when and where they need it. By bringing together Sandlot Solutions’ robust architecture with Secure Exchange Solutions’ Direct exchange capabilities, we are able to bring to MCHC a level of interconnectivity and customization that is truly revolutionary,” said John Bartley, Vice President of Strategic Account Management, Sandlot Solutions.
