NEW YORK--()--The YMCA of Greater New York announced today that Sharon Greenberger will serve as the new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 2015. She will succeed Jack Lund, who has served as president and CEO for ten years and will retire at the end of June, as previously announced.

Ms. Greenberger currently serves as Senior Vice President, Facilities and Real Estate at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, a position she has held since 2011, and has more than 20 years of experience in urban planning, development and education in New York City. Her impressive track record of executing significant initiatives that seek to improve New York City make her an ideal choice to lead the YMCA of Greater New York.

“We are privileged to welcome Sharon Greenberger to the YMCA,” said Sal Maglietta, Chair of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater New York. “Sharon is an energetic, thoughtful leader with an unparalleled commitment to community and economic development. Her accomplishments extend from strengthening New York City’s public school system to overseeing visionary projects in both the public and non-profit sectors. We know that Sharon will provide the leadership to guide the Y as it continues its mission of ensuring that all New Yorkers have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead an organization that has such a meaningful impact on the lives of New Yorkers,” said Ms. Greenberger. “The YMCA of Greater New York has consistently found innovative ways to address critical social needs in New York City and I look forward to continuing that vital work. As a longstanding member of the Prospect Park YMCA, I know well the vitality and warmth the YMCA brings to every neighborhood.”

In her current role at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Ms. Greenberger has overseen $2 billion of active projects geared towards expanding and improving the hospital facilities to better serve the needs of patients and their families. Previously, Greenberger was Chief Operating Officer for the New York City Department of Education, where her responsibilities included managing operations and programs for 1.1 million children across 1,700 of the City’s public schools. Prior to that position, she spent 4 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York City School Construction Authority, where she oversaw the renovation and modernization of the City’s existing school buildings and the design and construction of more than 100 new school buildings. Other previous positions include serving as chief of staff to the New York City deputy mayor for economic development and rebuilding, and vice president for economic development at the Alliance for Downtown New York.

Ms. Greenberger received her bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and holds a master’s degree in City Planning, with a focus in Housing and Community Development and Environmental Design, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
