SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IP Infusion, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced Ethernet and IP services, today announced the availability of ZebOS® Management Planes (ZebM), which allows network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) to quickly and inexpensively deliver comprehensive management functionality for their networking products. The ZebM solution provides a software framework and APIs for building on-device management systems for network equipment. The emergence of software-defined networking (SDN) is placing increased challenges to NEMs as they work to scale performance to meet increased processing needs, and to deliver networking products and network based services to market faster with reduced risk and greater flexibility.
IP Infusion’s ZebM Flexible Management Plane framework comprises of the following core components:
- CML (Central Management Layer), a transaction-oriented middleware component which connects configuration and operational data on all management interfaces within a network device. CML is used by any North Bound management application to manage ZebOS-XP or any third-party control plane.
- SMI (Simple Management Interface) APIs, a series of South Bound Interface modules to connect with ZebOS-XP or any third party control plane protocol modules. It serves as the interface between the managed object and the CML.
- Model driven NBI (North Bound Interface) architecture for automatic rendering of all interfaces like CLI, NetCONF.
“Hardware-dominated development environments require advanced software, speed and agility in order to survive in the ever-changing networking marketplace,” said Kiyo Oishi, CEO and president of IP Infusion. “With ZebM, many network equipment vendors can now benefit from simplified integration and meet today’s tight time-to-market and cost demands.”
“We see an increasing demand in the market for Software-Defined Networking (SDN) capabilities that goes beyond OpenFlow. ZebM accelerates our development of data model driven, transaction- and NetConf-enabled routers and switches to support the operators’ drive towards cost effective, programmatic network operations,” said Johnny Hedlund, chief executive officer of PacketFront Network Products. “We are proud to bring the next generation of the iBOS firmware to the telecommunications market with the help of IP Infusion, a well-respected partner in the industry.”
ZebM auto-renders management interfaces from a single data model and shares common instrumentation functions helping NEMs get to market faster. The mature ZebOS control plane software base, ZebIC hardware integration software together with the SMI libraries pre-integrated with control plane protocols, and operating software, combined with IP Infusion’s experienced network protocol development team reduces risk for a NEM.
