BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International Human Resources Development Corporation (IHRDC) announced today that it has reached agreement with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), the statutory body under the Malaysian Ministry of Works, to provide a large-scale e-Learning program of skills training and accreditation for the nation’s construction personnel.
The program is designed to benchmark the knowledge required for those participating in Malaysia’s expanding construction industry, and to provide an internationally-recognized certification attesting to their skills. CIDB intends to make a package of IHRDC’s courses mandatory for construction personnel who apply for the required Construction Personnel Registration Card, better known as the CIDB Green Card. An estimated 100,000 workers will take this “E-Training and Knowledge Solutions” qualification step each year.
The IHRDC – CIDB collaboration was formalized on the final day of the recent International Construction Week (ICW 2014) conference held in Kuala Lumpur during a ceremony attended by the Malaysian Minister of Works, the MOW Deputy Secretary General, CIDB’s CEO, construction industry executives and IHRDC management. Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof, announced that the initial IHRDC courses offered to construction workers will be on project management and safety and health.
According to Minister Fadillah, the new training program presented a huge opportunity for the Malaysian construction industry. “This accreditation will pave the way to participation in the international market,” he observed. “Adding skilled and competent personnel is one of the most important components of a developing nation.”
IHRDC officials attending the ceremony in the Malaysian capital included Tim Donohue, VP of e-Learning and Knowledge Solutions, who called the adoption of e-Learning by the CIDB a “major milestone” and indicated there were additional initiatives underway as part of the collaboration. CIDB will adopt IHRDC e-Learning courses as part of the skills development program for the agency’s own staff, and will eventually promote and supply e-Learning to all of the country’s construction industry contractors, especially those in oil and gas.
The announcement of the partnership was auspicious, as CIDB has requested to include IHRDC in its five year (2016-2020) Construction Industry Master Plan (CIMP II), which is part of Malaysia’s official template for the nation’s development. “We are delighted to take on this challenge and look forward to a long lasting relationship with CIDB and the Malaysian government” declared Donohue. “CIDB views IHRDC as its strategic partner, and we will work diligently to provide them with the solutions to achieve the goals set out in the Malaysian Master Plan.”
