CrossFit Star Julie Foucher, “America’s Fittest Woman,” Sets Sights on 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games

CLEVELAND--()--CrossFit athlete Julie Foucher has announced that she will make a final run for the title of “Fittest Woman on Earth” at the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games. CrossFit is among the fastest growing sports in the world and Foucher has fast become one of its brightest stars.

Foucher, who was the strongest finisher among all US women and placed third overall at the 2014 CrossFit Games, said that while being labeled “the fittest woman in America” is humbling, her sights are firmly set on earning the title of “Fittest Woman on Earth” come July of next year.

Foucher’s rigorous training schedule is particularly impressive in light of the fact that she is also a medical student at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and will graduate as a physician in 2017.

Foucher has given herself one more year in competitive CrossFit before she turns her focus to medicine full time, so the run up to the 2015 Games has particular meaning to her. That said, she has found a unique way to integrate her passion for fitness and her academic and medical goals.

“My journeys in both CrossFit and medicine have become progressively integrated as I’ve developed a better understanding of my life’s purpose,” said Foucher. “I believe it is my mission to use the talents I’ve been given to inspire and empower others to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. CrossFit has opened my eyes to the power of fitness—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual—in achieving maximal health and fulfillment. I intend to integrate these insights as I proceed in my medical training and care for my patients. I believe my role as a future physician will not simply be to facilitate the cure of disease, but to maximize the fitness of my patients over the years of their lives.”

Foucher has mapped out a schedule that will blend the tremendous commitments of an M.D.-in-training with maximizing workouts designed in collaboration with her coach, CrossFit training guru Doug Chapman, as well as gymnastics and flexibility guidance from 1996 Olympic gold medalist Dominique Moceanu and her husband, Cleveland-based surgeon Dr. Michael Canales.

Foucher has ten months of training between now and her shot at realizing her goal of a 1st place finish. In the meantime, she will be competing as part of the official four-person Team USA at the CrossFit Invitational in San Jose on November 9th.
