Enterra Solutions Featured in Accenture’s 2014 Technology Vision Report

NEWTOWN, Pa.--()--Enterra Solutions®, LLC, a leading big data analytics and insights firm, was featured in the Accenture 2014 Technology Vision Report for the company’s cognitive computing technology and its successful application in the consumer packaged goods industry. The report, which discusses six IT trends that could reshape business and industry, highlights the value of cognitive computing in transforming and optimizing how businesses operate. Enterra’s work is provided as an example of how smart, iconic brands are advancing data analytics to achieve an intelligent and interactive data-driven supply chain.

In a section discussing the application of cognitive computing to big data analytics, the report highlights the way companies are using machines to generate insights from data, allowing them to ‘sense’ the world as humans do. As an example, Enterra’s partnership with McCormick & Co., a global leader in flavor, was detailed. The Accenture report notes that McCormick’s website leverages Enterra Solutions’ Cognitive Reasoning PlatformTM to develop services that better serve consumers and its ecosystem of food and beverage partners. This service, called FlavorPrint, asks consumers to rate a variety of food items in order to derive their taste preferences. From that, the service creates for each individual a unique taste preference profile—or what it calls a FlavorPrint, which can be used to provide highly personalized product and recipe recommendations. The service further learns from an individual’s interactions with foods and allows that person to provide additional information, such as cooking preferences, equipment, and typical pantry items. This ongoing process allows FlavorPrint to learn more about an individual’s preferences and converts all the data it collects into better recommendations for the consumer.

“Cognitive computing is advancing the ways businesses make decisions and operate at every level by taking advantage of the massive amounts of data throughout the enterprise,” said Stephen DeAngelis, CEO of Enterra. “We appreciate Accenture citing our work with McCormick, a project that illustrates the vast potential for cognitive computing combined with enhanced mathematical techniques to uncover transformative improvements for companies and entire industries.”

In the food industry, McCormick is demonstrating how cognitive computing can drastically improve data analytics. The Accenture report notes that “as far as these customers can tell, they’re providing just a few raw facts in return for a great deal of personalized value about taste—something almost everyone feels strongly about yet finds hard to quantify or specify. From McCormick’s point of view, learning customers’ taste preferences leads to better insights, product decisions, and ultimately the ability to serve customers.”

Enterra plans to make cognitive computing widely available to enhance the competitiveness and valuations of iconic brands as more businesses turn to big-data insights for competitive advantages.
