CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fidelis SeniorCare (“Fidelis” or the “Company”), a successful pioneer and leader in the delivery of extraordinary clinical health care services for seniors, today announced the appointment of former WellCare Health Plans chief Alec Cunningham as their new President and Chief Executive Officer. Sam Willcoxon, Founder and former Chief Executive Officer, will remain with the company and assume the role of Chairman.
Cunningham, who will direct Fidelis’ growth in the rapidly expanding field of health care delivery to dual eligible frail and elderly populations, including those covered by emerging CMS Dual Demonstration Projects, is the former WellCare Chief Executive Officer who led that company into and through a sustained period of record profitability. Cunningham’s experience and leadership at some of the nation’s largest government-focused managed care companies, and his track record for promoting and sustaining growth, are qualities that will help him drive the next phase in Fidelis’ development.
"We are thrilled to have an executive of Alec's caliber joining Fidelis. He's a proven leader who understands what it takes to manage exceptional companies, and to deliver care to under-served populations,” said Sam Willcoxon, Founder and Chairman of Fidelis SeniorCare.
“Alec can significantly broaden Fidelis' reach, relationships and markets. In that respect, he’s the perfect fit for where we are, and where we are going,” added Willcoxon.
Alec Cunningham, with over 20 years of experience in Medicaid and Medicare HMO program development and management, is an experienced and well-recognized leader in the insurance and managed care industries. Prior to Fidelis, Cunningham held a variety of leadership and business development roles of increasing responsibility at WellCare Health Plans, culminating in his promotion to Chief Executive Officer of one of the country’s leading Medicaid and Medicare Plans.
Prior to WellCare, Mr. Cunningham served as Vice President of Business Development and Compliance at WellPoint Health Networks, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and managing health care products for state-sponsored programs. He also worked for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to develop and implement a statewide Medicaid managed care program.
Mr. Cunningham received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
“Fidelis serves one of the fastest growing and dynamic populations in health care – America’s seniors – and I’m thrilled to be a part of a team determined to be a market leader,” Cunningham said today. “Fidelis is ideally positioned to help address the looming primary care supply and demand imbalance facing this vulnerable population.”
Fidelis is a market-leading provider of high quality care and care coordination services for dual eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) beneficiaries. The Company has developed innovative care models that have provided an exceptional level of personalized service and extraordinary clinical and patient satisfaction outcomes.
The Company delivers these results through models that feature access to care 24 hours a day/365 days per year through employed primary care physicians, hospitalists, and field-based care teams.
Fidelis is also one of 6 awardees in the Michigan Health Link Program for Wayne and Macomb counties. The Michigan Health Link Program is part of the federal demonstration program being implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to integrate care for persons eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
