FRANKFORT, Ill.--()--Crown Premiums, Inc., a leading provider of custom promotional products, has acquired the trademark and manufacturing rights for the complete line of advertising clocks and thermometers once produced by the Pam Clock Co., which ceased operations in 1976.

The Pam Clock Co. was known for producing the “Gold Standard” of back-lit advertising clocks, which companies ordered to literally illuminate their brand and products. Crown Premiums has resumed manufacturing the clocks with the same classic look, but has incorporated innovative design changes and enhanced technology, according to Bill Maxwell, Crown Premiums CEO.

“One of our larger clients wanted a very cool retro-design clock, and what they described was a vintage Pam Clock,” said Maxwell. “The brand is iconic and highly sought after as a collectible, and this led to our decision to acquire the trademark and re-launch the line.”

Maxwell said they disassembled the clock to determine how to maintain the highly desired retro look and feel. And, given the 38-year lapse since it was last produced, he said Crown Premiums had the opportunity to greatly improve the technology. They changed the lighting from incandescent to LED, which lasts years, creates virtually no heat, and is energy efficient. And they changed other materials to enhance reliability.

“We were especially pleased to develop a Chicago-area source to produce custom artwork for the clock face,” said Maxwell. “This will speed our delivery and allow us to produce custom orders for companies who order limited quantities of these iconic brand builders.”

The popularity of the clock has not wavered over the years, said Maxwell, who points to collectors who are buying vintage Pam Clocks for many hundreds of dollars each. He said one Ford-branded rectangular clock recently sold for $4,000.
