Cearna Aesthetics Wins Top Honors at The Innovations Showcase

Advanced cosmetic surgery technology recognized as standout at 2014 entrepreneurial and startup conference

CHICAGO--()--Cearna Aesthetics Inc., a company engaged in the research, development and commercialization of cosmetic recovery products, has been selected as the winner of The Innovation Showcase 2014, a day-long event on July 10 for fundable companies to connect with capital sources. An investor panel selected Cearna for its industry-leading skin gel, OcuMend, which reduces bruising, swelling and pain related to cosmetic surgical procedures.

“Physicians want to offer their patients a first class experience when undergoing cosmetic procedures,” said Dr. Josephine Polich, founder and CEO, Cearna Aesthetics. “Patients will choose the office that will produce the least side effects and make them feel most comfortable. With the introduction of OcuMend, swelling, bruising and pain can be a thing of the past for many cosmetic procedures.”

The OcuMend formula is 50 times stronger than all other Arnica creams and tablets, and delivers its active ingredients directly to the surgery or injection site over an extended period of time. OcuMend also includes Ledum, which is required for eye and nose surgery, which other products omit. The healing gel pad is used following cosmetic procedures including eye, nose and dermal fillers like Restylane® and Juvederm®. Since its initial launch in 2013, Cearna has already sold 20,000 units of OcuMend to dermatologists and plastic surgeons.

“OcuMend is a great new tool that makes procedures easier on our patients – it’s like a security blanket for both our practice and our patients,” said Norman Pastorek, M.D., PC, FACS. “OcuMend truly gives our practice a leg up because we are at the cutting edge of practice patterns that are highly beneficial to our patients.”

The Innovations Showcase 2014 featured 74 exhibiting companies, who were given 60 seconds each to convince investors of their company’s value and investment worth. As the 2014 winner, Cearna received a prize package of $128,000 in professional and investment services, including a $52,000 debt investment from Elevate Ventures, VisionTech Partners and HALO Investors Group. Nearly 850 people attended this year’s conference, which first began in 2009.

The $52,000 investment will primarily fund marketing as Cearna continues to elevate its sales. The remainder of the prize package of business services including venture coaching, legal services and strategic planning services, will be received pro-bono.
