WOODINVILLE, Wash.--()--In its ninth consecutive year, the Columbia Winery Charity Walk & Run will be held at Columbia Winery on August 16, 2014. The 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, and Kids Dash will bring together more than 1,400 runners and walkers in Woodinville Wine Country to raise funds for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Last year in 2013, the need for funds to cover uncompensated care in Seattle exceeded $117 million. Of the more than 100,000 patients treated at Children’s each year, 65% need financial assistance. The hospital remains committed to providing excellent pediatric care for all children, regardless of a family's ability to pay.

“The need for uncompensated care continues to grow,” said Aileen Kelly, Executive Director of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild Association. “We feel so fortunate to have the generous support of the Columbia Winery, as well as the runners and walkers, to help us provide quality care for all children in our community regardless of a family’s ability to pay.”

As part of the larger Auction of Washington Wines association – the region’s most prestigious charity wine event – the Columbia Winery Charity Run & Walk is organized by the Run for Children’s Guild and supported by KING 5 to provide financial support for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Leading up to the event, Columbia Winery will donate $4 for every case purchased to Seattle Children’s Hospital. Throughout their participation, the Columbia Winery has helped generate more than $500,000 for the cause. This year, they hope to help raise more than $100,000.

“I am humbled by all of the people who have dedicated their time and talents to helping make this event come together, and I hope to congratulate everyone at the finish line,” Columbia Winery Winemaker Sean Hails said.

The race begins and ends at Columbia Winery, following a route through the heart of Woodinville Wine Country. Afterward, all are invited to enjoy live music and delicious grilled cheeses from the Ultimate Melt food truck. Additionally, participants who present their race number are invited to enjoy discounts at the tasting room.

About Columbia Winery

For more than 50 years, Columbia Winery has embraced a progressive winemaking philosophy that has led to new grape varieties, vineyards and blends. Today, Winemaker Sean Hails continues this innovation, handcrafting an award-winning collection of Washington State wines from grapes grown on southwest-facing slopes in the Columbia Valley. At the height of the growing season, the sun shines for up to 16 hours per day. This intense sunlight, coupled with only up to 12 inches of rain annually, translates to deeply concentrated color, flavor and structure in the glass. Located in the heart of Woodinville, the Columbia tasting room offers daily tastings in a rustic, yet elegant, setting.
