Professional Baseball Pitcher Alex Cobb Joins isoBLOX® as Advocate for Youth Skull Cap

Youth safety is a personal matter for hurler following his 2013 injury

New product available nationally at DICK’S Sporting Goods stores and online at DicksSportingGoods.com

NEW YORK--()--Alex Cobb, the baseball pitcher who narrowly escaped serious injury from a line drive comebacker in a game last summer, is teaming up with isoBLOX to endorse the new isoBLOX® Skull Cap With Impact Protection™ for youth baseball and softball.

Custom-made for boys and girls ages six to young adult, the isoBLOX Skull Cap is constructed with isoBLOX proprietary, patent-pending, hinged-plate technology. The isoBLOX Skull Cap With Impact Protection for youth is now available exclusively at DICK’S Sporting Goods stores across the USA and online at www.DicksSportingGoods.com. The isoBLOX website is www.isoBLOX.com.

In his start on June 15, 2013, Cobb was struck on the head by a line drive. The ball hit the 25-year-old on the right side of his head and he fell to the mound. He was taken off the field on a stretcher, his head immobilized, and transported to the hospital.

Much to the relief of family, friends, teammates and thousands of fans who witnessed the incident, Cobb remained conscious throughout the occurrence. He suffered a mild concussion and was released from the hospital the next day. The Boston native ended up missing two months in recovery but came back to finish his best professional season with a record of 11-3 and an ERA of 2.76.

“It is important that this new technology take root in youth baseball and softball so that its use becomes an accepted part of the sport,” said Cobb. “The protective plates in the isoBLOX Skull Cap With Impact Protection have passed rigorous testing, so I’m convinced that this is the safety measure that young players need and what their parents want for them.”

The isoBLOX Skull Cap fits over the head of the young player and underneath his or her stretch-to-fit or adjustable team cap, providing protection for pitchers (some just 45 feet away) from line drives hit back to the mound, as well as for players in the field. The caps consist of uniquely-formulated protective plates that use a combination of dispersion and absorption techniques to diffuse energy upon impact with high-velocity objects, and are available in three sizes: youth small, intermediate and young adult. The retail price per unit is $59.99.

“Alex Cobb is committed to improving player safety because it is an issue to which he is personally attached,” said isoBLOX Executive, Mark Panko. “He is authentic to the core in his desire for young kids to be protected from injury and believes the isoBLOX Skull Cap with Impact Protection offers players and parents meaningful protection.”

Cobb will participate in media conference calls and interview sessions in addition to making appearances to educate and engage parents and young players considering the protection offered by isoBLOX technology. All activities will be subject to his baseball schedule.
