inx Medical Announces New Non-Surgical Hemorrhoid Treatment Option

ST. LOUIS--()--A new medical device designed to treat internal hemorrhoids quickly and comfortably without surgery has just become available to patients.

Following recent approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the completion of a successful round of initial investor funding, St. Louis-based inx Medical, has introduced the Nexus™ Hemorrhoid Ligator with EasyFire™ technology.

“We are excited to bring this important product to market to fill a gap in hemorrhoid treatments, offering a comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective treatment to the millions of people suffering from this painful condition,” said Jim Vermeersch, President and Chief Executive Officer of inx Medical. “With better education and this innovative new technology, we expect to see a sharp increase in the number of hemorrhoid procedures.”

“I am excited to partner with inx Medical, a company that has the potential to transform the standard of care in hemorrhoid treatments, and perhaps provide breakthroughs in other areas of the gastrointestinal market,” said Fred Williams, MD, a leading St. Louis gastroenterologist. “I believe the Nexus Ligator is the easiest and most efficient way to effectively treat hemorrhoids non-surgically. With its unique design, we will be able to offer our patients a viable solution that quickly and comfortably takes care of this painful problem without surgery.”

The company, under Vermeersch’s leadership, has been developing the device since 2011 and received private investor funding, which has been used for operations, legal and regulatory consultation, manufacturing and commercialization efforts.

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the prevalence of hemorrhoids in the United States is 10.4 million people, with approximately 1 million new cases diagnosed each year. However, only one-third of that population seeks medical treatment each year, making it a dramatically undertreated condition. About 75 percent of people will experience hemorrhoids at some point.
