OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Netsmart continues its leadership in coordinated, connected, healthcare as a founding member of Carequality (pronounced “care-e-quality”), a new industry-driven initiative designed to accelerate progress in health data exchange among multi-platform networks, healthcare providers, and electronic health record (EHR) and health information exchange (HIE) vendors.
Netsmart is one of 29 founders of Carequality, and the only one focused on providing post-acute health information technology to behavioral health providers. These provider organizations are critical to the goal of “treating the whole person,” including both physical and behavioral health needs. Other major founding members of Carequality include CVS MinuteClinic, Epic, InterSystems, Kaiser Permanente, the New York eHealth Cooperative and Optum.
Carequality aims to facilitate agreement among industry stakeholders on a common national-level set of requirements that will enable providers to access patient data from other groups, improving the quality of healthcare available and reducing the cost to support interoperability.
“It’s critical that providers find ways to easily access and share authorized clinical data, especially for patients with co-occurring mental and physical illness,” said Michael Valentine, chief executive officer, Netsmart. “We are fully engaged in a continued leadership role to provide solutions and services that enable coordinated care, and are pleased to be a founder of Carequality as it advances connected care on a national level.”
“Broader scale interoperability is one of the keys to helping improve clinical quality and outcomes,” said Steve Dolan, CIO of AltaPointe Health Systems, a Netsmart client that oversees a community-based, regional system of mental health, substance abuse and intellectual disability service provision in Mobile and Washington counties of Alabama. “Involvement in the Carequality initiative is the latest example of Netsmart’s industry-level leadership on behalf of its clients.”
The Carequality initiative is led by Healtheway, a non-profit, public-private collaborative working to advance nationwide implementation of secure, interoperable HIE.
“Netsmart has demonstrated strong leadership not only in joining Carequality as a founder, but also as a long-time facilitator and advocate for coordinated care,” said Healtheway Executive Director Mariann Yeager. “We’re pleased to have their support and look forward to their contribution of knowledge and expertise.”
