Nolan Gasser, Architect of Pandora’s Music Genome Project Teams up with Mission Measurement to Create the First of Its Kind Social Impact Genome

The Impact Genome will establish standards and benchmarks for social outcomes across the entire social sector

CHICAGO--()--Mission Measurement Corp today announced the launch of a groundbreaking project designed to codify the factors that lead to success in every major social program category. The work, called the Impact Genome Project™ (IGP), will be led by Nolan Gasser, former Stanford Professor and famed architect of Pandora’s Music Genome Project™.

The project will leverage Mission Measurement’s existing database of more than 78,000 outcome data points and analyze social impact programs from thousands of organizations to form its initial evidence base. The work, which is already underway, is expected to take nine months to complete and will be the first of its kind in the social sector.

“While society is facing unprecedented challenges, the social sector remains woefully inefficient due to a lack of accurate, normative standards and benchmarks. Taking a quantitative, genomic approach to measuring social impact is an inevitable step forward for this vital sector, and I am delighted to participate in this crucial initiative,” said Nolan Gasser, head of research for the Impact Genome Project™.

“For years, we’ve been working to improve the world by changing the dialogue around social impact. Our mission is to create a more effective and efficient social sector by providing funders and implementers with better information so that they can make more informed and timely strategic decisions. The Impact Genome is critical to achieving our ultimate aim of creating a literal 'social capital market' - where the power of markets is leveraged so that social outcomes are more efficiently bought and sold and social impact is maximized,” said Jason Saul, Founder and CEO of Mission Measurement.
