NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--SpecialtyCare’s Board of Directors announced that J. Michael Mauldin has stepped down as chairman and CEO and Melvin F. Hall, PhD, has been appointed chief executive officer, effective March 11, 2014.

Mr. Mauldin joined SpecialtyCare in 2010 as chief financial officer and also served as chief operating officer before assuming the role of CEO in August of 2012. Mauldin reinforced SpecialtyCare’s position as the nation’s leading provider of clinical services to hospitals through the acquisition and integration of several well-respected providers, including NeuroMatrix, CETECH, Advanced Perfusion Care, Surgical Monitoring Associates and Active Diagnostics.

“Mike has dedicated himself to expanding our clinical and operational framework, helping us integrate several important acquisitions and strengthening our key value propositions. We are grateful for Mike’s service over the years and wish him all the best,” said Marc Saiontz, managing director at American Securities, SpecialtyCare’s lead investor.

Mauldin’s successor, Dr. Hall, served as president and CEO of Press Ganey Associates from 2000 to 2009. Under his leadership, Press Ganey experienced impressive operational and financial growth, made influential contributions to the development and implementation of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), and launched best-in-class innovation in service delivery. By the end of 2009, more than 47% of all hospitals in the US - nearly 2,300 hospitals - were using Press Ganey to measure and improve patient and employee engagement.

“Mel is quite familiar with SpecialtyCare, having served on its board of directors since 2011,” Saiontz said. “He is an experienced CEO who understands the health care industry and has demonstrated remarkable talent for creating efficient environments and strong organizational cultures. That combination will help identify and drive exciting new opportunities. We look forward to growing SpecialtyCare’s critical and market-leading position under his leadership.”

“I am excited and honored to lead an organization so well positioned to address the challenging and changing needs of health care providers and patients,” Hall said. “Through this next phase of growth, SpecialtyCare will build on its reputation as a trusted clinical partner by continuing to focus on efficient, safe, and high-quality hands-on care. The SpecialtyCare team is passionate about driving improvement in the delivery of clinical services.”
