Houston Methodist Selects RightCare to Identify High-Risk Patients and Reduce Readmissions Among Mental Health Population

Medical Technology Company Expands into Texas Market

HORSHAM, Pa.--()--RightCare announced today that Houston Methodist, one of the nation’s leading hospital systems, will utilize RightCare’s full software suite in three of their locations to identify high-risk patients for readmission among their mental health population. The locations include Texas Medical Center, San Jacinto/Baytown, and Willowbrook. This is a significant milestone for RightCare as it is their first application in the Texas market and a prestigious hospital system added to their growing roster.

Houston Methodist is using RightCare’s software to address its mental health population because it is proven to be one of the most susceptible groups for readmissions. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission recently released a report on potentially preventable readmissions (PPR) among Medicaid beneficiaries, which found that mental health and substance abuse conditions comprised 9.3 percent of initial admissions but 27.4 percent of PPRs. The study found that among the highest PPR rates were those for alcoholic liver disease, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and major depression.

“We are thrilled that Houston Methodist has chosen RightCare to help optimize the continuum of care for its mental health population,” said Eric Heil, RightCare co-founder, President & CEO. “By utilizing the software, Houston Methodist will be well-equipped to identify high-risk patients upon admission, offer them the right care and drastically improve outcomes.”

Houston Methodist will employ RightCare’s full suite of software including Risk Assessment, Coordination Central and Post Care Connect. The seamless integration of these three modules will provide Houston Methodist with a comprehensive system for identifying, prioritizing and transitioning high-risk mental health patients.
