FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) today announced that Tom Conophy has been appointed executive vice president, chief information officer, overseeing all aspects of Staples’ global IT organization. He will report directly to Ron Sargent, Staples’ chairman and chief executive officer, and will serve on the Staples Executive Committee.

Most recently, Conophy served as executive vice president and chief information officer for InterContinental Hotels Group, where he was responsible for all technology solutions across their global organization. He led online transformation efforts in key growth areas such as mobile and loyalty marketing, helping increase revenue and drive customer engagement. He previously played a similar role for Starwood Hotels & Resorts International. Conophy was also the chief architect for SABRE and held leadership positions at United Airlines.
