BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 2013 Wireless LAN Strategies and Vendor Leadership: North American Enterprise Survey, which takes an in-depth look at how medium and large organizations are evolving their access networks to deliver wireless connectivity to users.
ANALYST NOTE
“Thanks to the explosion in wireless devices and demand for network access, WLAN is already a $4 billion annual market, and our latest survey shows there’s no end in sight to the great big wireless LAN build-out,” notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research. “Organizations tell us they’re planning major increases in wireless coverage, growing their access points by more than 20% by 2015 to support wireless devices, user mobility, and guest access.”
WIRELESS LAN SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Not only are companies rolling out more wireless access points, they are also upgrading existing ones: 802.11n penetration is expected to more than double by 2015, and there is already interest in 802.11ac products
- Respondent organizations average around 9,000 devices on their networks today, growing to over 20% by 2015
- The fastest growth is in mobile devices, which respondents anticipate will account for half of all networked devices by 2015
- Almost 2/3 of enterprises surveyed allow their employees to bring their own devices into the enterprise today, a significant jump from Infonetics' 2012 WLAN survey
WLAN SURVEY SYNOPSIS
For its 36-page WLAN study, Infonetics asked purchase-decision makers at 162 medium and large businesses in the U.S. and Canada about their plans for delivering wireless connectivity in the workplace over the next 2 years. The survey provides insights into network-connected devices installed; Ethernet switch ports, WLAN controllers, and WLAN access points deployed; WLAN technologies used (802.11a/b/g/n/ac); drivers of access network traffic growth; bring-your-own-device (BYOD) usage; WLAN and LAN equipment vendors; and expenditures.
