Albert Einstein Medical Center Selects MedCurrent OrderRight Radiology Decision Support

TORONTO--()--MedCurrent Corporation, a leading provider of clinical decision support solutions (http://www.medcurrent.com), today announced that Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, a 664-bed tertiary-care teaching hospital, has chosen MedCurrent’s OrderRight (http://www.medcurrent.com/Solutions.html) Radiology Decision Support system to ensure appropriate diagnostic ordering, reduce unnecessary radiation exposure, and mitigate diagnostic costs. Integrated within Cerner Corporation’s Millennium™ electronic medical record (EMR) ordering system, OrderRight provides optimal workflow for the ordering clinician, and will help Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, improve patient care planning and treatment, reduce inappropriate utilization, and lower costs.

“Utilizing OrderRight is consistent with our strategy to optimize data and technology in clinical decision-making and management,” said Terence Matalon, M.D., Chief of Radiology at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia. “In addition, it supports the impending regulatory changes that focus on quality outcomes and reduced costs. We chose OrderRight because of its physician-intuitive design, ability to customize rule sets, its post-ordering analytics and its deep integration with our EMR.”

Having OrderRight fully integrated into the Cerner system allows patient-specific information within the EMR to be utilized to trigger the system’s clinical rule sets, so that upon ordering, physicians are presented with patient-specific recommended options along with embedded clinical rationale. This allows physicians to manage radiology costs by making the best clinical decisions for the patient.

The first rule set the system utilizes is the ACR Select™ appropriateness criteria in its baseline format, along with the system’s patent-pending Rule Authoring Studio (http://www.medcurrent.com/Solutions.html)™ which provides administrative tools that allow each customer organization to modify and customize the appropriateness rules to meet their local needs and standards of practice. With this feature, new rules and criteria can easily be created and clinically tested for consideration before being added into their system’s rule set. OrderRight Data Analytics™, a module that provides a view of ordering behaviors and rule compliance from various macro and micro levels, enhances the organization’s ability to ensure clinically-appropriate ordering and support appropriate medical review and action.

“We are honored that such a prestigious organization as Einstein Healthcare Network has entrusted MedCurrent with such an important aspect of their care,” said Brent Norton, M.D., MedCurrent CEO. “Having OrderRight integrated into their Cerner EMR will ensure easy adoption by their ordering physicians, a key success factor in successfully employing decision support. We are pleased that they have committed to this combined technology and clinical quality approach,” said Norton.
