CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Center for Leadership Innovation and Mentorship Building (CLIMB) http://www.csusm.edu/climb at California State University San Marcos has selected Art Barter, owner and chairman of Datron World Communications, Inc. http://www.dtwc.com/ and founder and CEO of Servant Leadership Institute, http://www.servantleadershipinstitute.com as its Outstanding Business Leader for 2013. The annual award, which recognizes exceptional business leaders who demonstrate outstanding community leadership, economic innovation, and philanthropic involvement, was presented at the College of Business Administration CLIMB program earlier this month.
“Each year, CLIMB selects one business leader who is an exemplar of economic innovation, community involvement, philanthropic contributions as well as business success,” said Dr. Rajnandini Pillai, executive director of CLIMB and professor of management and organizational behavior at CSUSM. “Art Barter, through his success as the owner and cultural architect of Datron and his efforts to improve the lives of others through his various philanthropic activities locally and around the world, serves as a role model for the future leaders that the College of Business is developing. He eminently deserves the award.”
Barter holds two bachelor’s degrees in business and finance from California State University, Fullerton. Prior to joining Datron in 1999, he spent eight years working with the Disney Corporation and more than 25 years at manufacturing companies. In 2004, he purchased Datron from The Titan Corporation, and grew it from a $10 million company into a company with revenues of $200 million in just six years.
The success was born out of Barter’s desire to transform a traditional system of leadership into a servant-led organization. As an active speaker, he tells Datron’s riveting story of moving from severe adversity to a significant organization committed to leading for the sake of others.
Barter has presented the servant leadership message to a wide variety of corporate, government, and non-profit audiences throughout the U.S., and he’s particularly effective in reaching other executives who want to make a difference in the world.
