NEW YORK & REYKJAVIK, Iceland--()--Iceland’s unique fireworks display, made by the people, for the people, will be shared with the world on New Year’s Eve and into the New Year live online at: www.icelandnaturally.com in cooperation with Mila.

New Year's Eve in Iceland is a spectacular celebration. Festivities traditionally start with a family dinner, followed by bonfires (brenna), where family, friends and neighbors gather to enjoy the warm fire and celebrate with music. According to traditional Icelandic folklore, there are several magical traditions that happen on New Year's Eve: cows talk, seals take on human form, the dead rise from their graves and elves move houses.

At midnight Icelandic time, a brilliant display of fireworks will be unleashed. With no restrictions on fireworks, the entire population of Reykjavik, approximately 200,000 people, creates its own fireworks show. Fireworks are mainly sold by the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) to raise funds for the courageous volunteer association. After midnight, the nightclubs and pubs are open for business, with dancing and celebrating lasting well into the morning.

In October, Lonely Planet named Iceland “Best in Travel 2013 – Top 10 Countries”. The article stated: “Ask any tourist during your trip in Iceland and you’ll quickly see that everyone develops an unconditional love for the little island nation, whether it’s for the mind-bending scenery, the platefuls of delicious lamb and fish, or the sincere local hospitality.”

Do not miss the massive fireworks display broadcasted live online here at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time / 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Click here to join the event on Facebook and be sure to tweet @IcelandNatural using the hashtag #ReykjavikNYE!
